Disney Reveals the New Disney Treasure ‘Moana’ Show

Disney has revealed some incredible details about the new show “Disney The Tale of Moana,” which will debut exclusively at the Walt Disney Theatre onboard the Disney Treasure cruise ship in December 2024. With set design and music bursting with elements of Pacific Islands culture that inspires the classic coming-of-age tale, this innovative production will immerse audiences in a transformational adventure across land and sea.

Read on for more details and a sneak peek of how “Disney The Tale of Moana” will come to life in the first stage adaptation inspired by the Walt Disney Animation Studios film.

Towering Puppets Take Stage

To create puppetry that soars to mythical heights, Disney Live Entertainment creative director of puppetry and articulation, Jeff Conover, teamed up with master puppet designer Michael Curry, whose creations are featured in Disney’s Tony Award-winning musical “The Lion King” on Broadway. The massive, fiery Te Kā will be a puppet of a scale Disney Cruise Line has never before produced. When Moana meets Te Kā and restores the heart of Te Fiti, the giant Te Kā puppet will shed its fiery shell and become the gentle island goddess, Te Fiti herself.

Practice Your “Warrior Face”

Moana and Maui will perform the song “Warrior Face” for the first time in the stage show when the demigod teaches Moana how to face her fears before entering the Realm of the Monsters to face Tamatoa. “Warrior Face” will join classic favorites from the Grammy-Award winning soundtrack in the stage show, including “You’re Welcome,” “We Know The Way” and “How Far I’ll Go.”

Make way-make way! 'Disney, The Tale of Moana,' a brand new broadway-style production is coming to the new Disney Cruise Line ship, the Disney Treasure!

Setting the Scene in “An Innocent Warrior”

“Disney The Tale of Moana” will begin in modern day on the fictional island of Motunui, in a set design filled with hints of brilliant cultures of the Pacific Islands that will appear throughout the show. The spirit of Gramma Tala, our narrator, will introduce her granddaughter, while through vibrant dance and songs in a mix of languages including Tuvaluan, Tokelauan and Samoan, we will learn how the ocean chooses young Moana for an incredible journey to restore the heart of Te Fiti.

Transforming The Walt Disney Theatre in “How Far I’ll Go”

In this iconic scene, The Walt Disney Theatre will transform from the island of Motunui into the open ocean as Moana’s journey moves from her home to the great voyage that she’s longed for her entire life. Twinkling stars will swirl overhead and a giant, glowing manta ray will emerge and soar above the audience as a newfound sense of courage fills Moana. The manta ray is the spirit of Gramma Tala, illuminating the way for Moana on her journey to save her people.

This show looks stunning, and I cannot wait to see Moana’s incredible story unfold in a new way on the Disney Treasure! “Disney The Tale of Moana” will join a dazzling lineup of fan-favorite shows like “Beauty and the Beast” and “Disney Seas the Adventure” in the Walt Disney Theatre.

First Look: The Haunted Mansion Parlor on the Disney Treasure

Today, we got an exclusive look at the inside of the new “Haunted Mansion Parlor,” coming to Disney’s newish ship, the Disney Treasure.

Setting sail in late 2024, the new ship boasts exclusive lounges, dining, and experiences never seen on another Disney Cruise ship. The design of the Haunted Mansion Parlor will resemble a first-class drawing room of a classic cruise liner from the golden age, invoking inspiration from the original Haunted Mansion with a nautical twist. Complete with nostalgic tributes to Haunted Mansion attractions around the world, fans will recognize the iconic wallpaper and the distinctive purple armchair tucked in the corner.

You will also encounter a few legendary characters from the original Disney Parks attraction, as well as some new seafaring arrivals, in a portrait gallery depicting the Disney Treasure’s own ghostly residents.

Billed as the “next chapter” of Haunted Mansion lore, the bar tells the story of a captain who entered the ghostly realm following a tragic dinner with his fiancée, and pulls aesthetic theming directly from Walt Disney’s original 1969 Disneyland version of the ride, including purple wallpaper, a mantel clock, a distinct chair.

Fans affectionately refer to as the Donald Duck chair.  While visitors experience the seafaring character’s lair, they’ll hear a custom musical arrangement by Shruti Kumar that draws inspiration from the ride’s iconic theme.

The Haunted Mansion Parlor boasts new, exclusive merchandise, from miniatures of the venue’s distinctive music box and mantle clock to a mug engraved with spooky sea life and a small mirror that flashes images of hitchhiking ghosts.

  • The Haunted Mansion Parlor Music Box will be a keepsake inspired by an eerie music box that will be found inside the Haunted Mansion Parlor. As the rumors go, this mysterious box belonged to the captain’s bride-to-be and only opens in the presence of malevolent spirits.
  • Inspired by the old grandfather clock from the original Disney Parks attraction, the Haunted Mansion Parlor clock will evoke the nostalgic allure of the Haunted Mansion.
  • And, a ghost may even follow you home on your voyage… The Haunted Mansion Parlor Mirror will offer a frightening surprise when the hitchhiking ghosts mysteriously appear in the frame.

Disney promises that the parlor will star “legendary characters from Haunted Mansion attractions at Disney Parks around the world, as well as new seafaring arrivals” that will come out to socialize (and expose their skeletons amid flashes of lightning) within the portrait gallery inside a first-class drawing room that recalls classic cruise liners of the golden age.

Of course, the Haunted Mansion Parlor will also feature themed cocktails. A new twist on a classic margarita features a swirl of flavored smoke peppering the liquid, the purple Ghoulish Delight mixes ube-flavored fudge, oat milk, and tapioca pearls in a drink topped off with a gummy eyeball, and the non-alcoholic Sympathetic Libations harmonizes blood orange and sour cherry flavors.

The Haunted Mansion Parlor is one of several Disney Parks-inspired venues that will debut onboard the Disney Treasure. The exciting lineup will also include Skipper Society, a lounge inspired by the Jungle Cruise parks attraction, and Periscope Pub, which is inspired by the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea legacy parks attraction.
